There were many stores selling grilled seafood. The choices were so many, squid, mantis shrimp, fish roe, puffer fish even manta ray. But among all, mantis shrimp tasted the best.
After we ordered the shrimp, shop owner took the gridiron and started to grill the shrimps. Use carbon to grill food is common in Tai O but for the non-residents like us, watching people grill seafood by carbon is a rare experience.
The shrimps were sizzling on the gridiron and they looked much smaller than their original size during the burning process. Around 5 minutes of waiting, the shop owner packed the shrimps into a paper bag.
Grilled mantis shrimp looked like french fries but tasted exactly like a fresh mantis shrimp with heavy taste of sea water. The burned taste added extra flavor to the shrimps. Also, they were quite chewy that we needed more time to finish them.
For me, grilled mantis shrimp was a perfect snack and complement of TV programs. It was also a perfect snack when you were just wondering around. I wanted to eat more grilled food but my throat was already complaining for my unhealthy diet.
