$40 per bowl
The huge cuttlefish was very eye catching that we couldn’t resist to pay $40 and have a taste of it. When we were buying big fish ball, the owner of Fuk Hing Hong brought out the steaming hot baby sized cuttlefish with two hands. Immediately, a heavy soy sauce and finger licking seafood smell attracted us and other tourists that we all formed a circle around the big cuttlefish.
The shiny dark brown color of the marinated fresh cuttlefish kept telling us how long it was fully soaked in soy sauce. The owner skillfully cut off both main body and tentacles of the cuttlefish and put them into a plastic bowl for us. Fresh was the selling point of it as what have said in the poster and it actually met with our expectation.
At first we thought $40 maybe a little bit overpriced for a small bowl size cuttlefish but when we started to eat, we found that all the cuttlefish were tightly packed together and it was bang for the buck.
As expected, compare with normal marinated cuttlefish, fresh cuttlefish was more chewy. The taste of seawater filled up our mouth in every single bite of the cuttlefish. The longer we chew, the unique sweetness of fresh seafood became more obvious. Compare with the main body, we preferred the tentacles more because they were more crispy.
Tai O is surrounded by sea, it is famous for its seafood. If you have limited budget like us, marinated fresh cuttlefish is an alternative for you to tell your friends you have tried Tai O’s seafood.
