Background information of Tai O Heritage Hotel

Situated next to the Tai O Ferry Pier, Tai O Heritage Hotel is revitalizing from the Old Tai O Police Station (Grade II Historic Building) which was constructed in 1902, converting itself as a nine-suite boutique hotel and opened in 2012. Tai O Heritage Hotel initiated and operated as a non-profit social enterprise by Hong Kong Heritage Conservational Foundation Limited (HCF). The Hotel used to be a platform to celebrate rich history of Old Tai O Police Station, and help to rejuvenate the historic Tai O fishing village.

Due to its dedication to celebrate heritage significance and engagement with the fishing village community through extensive cultural mapping exercises, Tai O Heritage Hotel Hong Kong has been awarded by UNESCO with the Award of Merit at the 2013 Asia-Pacific Awards in Cultural Heritage Conservation. Also, it became the winner of the 2013 Classic Elegance Award by 2013 World Boutique Hotel Awards.

We arrived Tai O Heritage Hotel after taking about 30 minute from Tai O Bus Terminus. On the way, we passed through the wholesale fish market, shrimp paste factory, and Shaolin Wushu Cultural Center, so it was not a boring pathway to walk along the road definitely.

Tai O Heritage Hotel opens from 11am till 6pm. The relics of cannons, searchlight, charge room and holding cells, bullet holes, and guard tower are displayed in it. Besides, Tai O Lookout Restaurant is built for you to relax. It also provides books, video documentation, and valuable historic photos so as to give you a glimpse of what Tai O and Old Tai O Police Station were like in the past. A free heritage guided tour is conducted daily at 3pm-4pm in order to present the heritage significance of Old Tai O Police Station to tourists. If you want to join the tour, please do not hesitate to register online or at the hotel reception.
